Rock ‘n’ Play

These sessions introduce children to the fun of playing and experimenting with the keyboard/piano and the ukulele (a great lead into learning the guitar at a later date). The children learn through games, activities, songs, hand signs and use of the tuned chime bars. While no regular practice is required it is an advantage to have an instrument at home to play on. A parent or carer is required to attend this class and help with some of the activities.

Sessions also include:

  • Use of tuned and untuned percussion instruments
  • Movement activities
  • Sequencing rhythm patterns using picture cards, and developing towards traditional musical notation
  • Singing and listening activities
  • Use of a variety of props including the parachute, lycra, streamers, scarves, books, soft toys and bean bags
  • Pictorial representation of sounds to develop pitch and tempo concepts

Music also helps your child with:

  • Developing muscle strength
  • Development and co-ordination of fine and gross motor skills
  • Language, listening and communication skills
  • Counting, forwards and backwards
  • Social development, turn taking and bonding
  • Gaining self-confidence

Age Range: 4-5 year olds
Class Length: 45 minutes a week
When: Friday 1.00pm – 1.45pm
Cost: $150 per term

Two of my children have enjoyed music with the classes at the music tree, they both loved getting involved and making music.

Tonya’s approach is well thought out, and although the kids and parents think they are simply having a fun time, because of Tonya’s knowledge, forethought and planning, they are thoroughly learning the basic structures of music, that set them up brilliantly for later musical enjoyment and instrumental playing or singing.
